SB 899 (Simitian) Toxic Free Oceans Act


Summary.
SB 899 follows the recommendations of the California Ocean Protection Council by phasing out the use of toxic chemicals in plastic packaging.

Position and Status.
CAW Supports. SB 899 will next be heard in Asm ESTM in 2008. Previously, SB 899 passed off the Senate Floor with a 21-16 vote April 23, 2007, and passed out of the Sen. EQ committee with a 4-2 vote on March 26, 2007.

Description.
SB 899 proposes to require the phase out of the use of toxic chemicals in plastic packaging by 2015.
