Kelly joined Californians Against Waste as Policy Analyst in April 2017. A lifelong environmentalist, Kelly has been engaged in numerous environmental protection and resource conservation campaigns at the local level, including helping several schools and businesses begin CRV bottle recycling programs.
Based at CAW’s Sacramento office, one of Kelly’s principal roles is to ensure the viability of the California Bottle Bill by working directly with recyclers, Capitol, and CalRecycle staff, conducting research, and engaging with stakeholders at the legislative and regulatory level. Beyond the Bottle Bill, Kelly works on all recycling issues for CAW – including mattresses, paint, carpets, electronics, and hazardous waste. Her other focus areas include producer responsibility and reducing the proliferation of single-use plastics.
Kelly received her B.A. in International Relations and Resource Use from the University of California, Davis. Prior to joining Californians Against Waste Kelly worked for the Association of California Water Agencies as a Legislative Analyst and interned in the Press Office of Speaker John A. Perez.
Kelly is a Board Member for the Green Restaurants Alliance Sacramento, a nonprofit working to maximize the sustainability of restaurants in America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital through food scrap composting, local sourcing, and waste reduction.
