PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The state Senate has passed four recycling bills aimed at reducing the amount of trash pouring into the Central Landfill.
Three of the bills now await consideration in the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee, and one that deals with the disposal of electronics has been sent to the House Finance Committee.
Environment and Natural Resources Committee chairman Jan Malik says the bills before his committee could be heard later this week.
He says he tentatively supports the bills as passed the Senate, but wants to make sure they are not a burden on businesses.
The Senate e-waste bill, which requires manufacturers to take back and recycle household electronics products, joins a similar House version in the Finance Committee.
