  • Franklin Associates, Ltd.; under Institute for Lifecycle Environmental Assessment, "Paper vs. Plastic Bags," 'Postcard,' 1990. (This frequently cited life-cycle analysis is less thorough than more recent studies, which expand up from 3 indicators to six. Still, it is a frequent citation and this summary can be helpful for background; focuses on energy.)
  • Scottish Executive Publications, Proposed Plastic Bag Levy - Extended Impact Assessment: Volume 1: Main Report , Scotland, 2005 (the colored graph 60% down this page is interesting. Overall, it is lengthy, and places plastic as seond best, but assumes that all waste is going to the landfill. Recommends a tiered fee on both paper and plastic disposable bags.)
  • Consultancy Study on Plastic Bags in Ireland (1999); we are still looking for a link to this one, but its 'weighting process' is interesting and is explained here under , 'Calculation of Eco-Indicators.'
