Oct 23 - City of Eugene Adopts Third Bag Ban In OR

Add Eugene, Oregon to the list of cities going plastic bag free.

Plastic carryout bags are an unnecessary expense, costing millions each year in cleanups and increased product prices. Reusable bags are a safe and environmentally superior alternative to single-use bags.

Yesterday the City Council adopted a plastic bag ban with a five cent charge on paper bags. The ordinance passed 6-2 and goes into effect on May 1, 2013.

Eugene is the third city in Oregon to adopt a plastic bag ban, after Portland and Corvallis.
