Jun 20 - Sunnyvale Rolls Out Plastic Bag Ban

Share

Today marks the first day for the City of Sunnyvale's plastic bag ban.

Sunnyvale adopted a plastic bag ban, with a ten cent charge on paper bags, last December.

The ordinance goes into effect today at larger grocery and retail stores selling food, and expands to other stores next March. The ten cent paper bag charge will increase to 25 cents in two years.

The ordinance is expected to reduce the 75 million plastic bags distributed annually in Sunnyvale by as much as 90%.
