Jun 12 - Mendocino Cnty Adopts Ordinance; Nearly 50 Jurisdictions With Bag Bans

Share

Toronto and LA City recently created a flurry of media attention after taking giant steps towards banning plastic bags, but this morning Mendocino County quietly became the 49th local government in our state to adopt a plastic bag ban.

The Board of Supervisors approved an initial reading of the ordinance last month and finalized the decision today. The ordinance is similar to those already adopted by the cities of Ukiah and Fort Bragg. It bans plastic bags and charges ten cents per paper bag in all retail stores in unincorporated County areas.

The Mendocino County bag ordinance goes into effect in larger stores in January of 2013, and expands to all other stores one year later.

Take action on other local plastic pollution ordinances.
