May 4 - Supreme Court to Hear Manhattan Beach Bag Case Today

Oral arguments on the Manhattan Beach plastic bag ordinance will be heard by the California Supreme Court in San Francisco this afternoon at 1:30 pm.

Californians Against Waste, represented by Remy, Thomas, Moose, and Manley, filed an amicus curiae brief in support of Manhattan Beach’s ordinance. Our attorney, Jim Moose, will be making part of the oral argument for the case. CAW will also be at the hearing for support and updates to the case. It’s anticipated that the Supreme Court will make a decision within 90 days.

In 2008, the City of Manhattan Beach passed an ordinance banning the distribution of single-use plastic bags and was subsequently sued by the Save the Plastic Bag Coalition. Today, the Supreme Court will consider overturning the plastic industry’s challenge to the bag ordinance.
