Jan 3 - Changing of Guard at CalRecycle

With the Inauguration of Jerry Brown as Governor, Margo Reid Brown has stepped down as Director of California’s Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle).

Reid-Brown was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in January 2010 to lead the newly merged department after previously serving as Chair of the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB).

Current CalRecycle Deputy Director and former CIWMB Executive Director, Mark Leary will serve as Acting Director until a new director is appointed. Leary has 30 years of experience in environmental protection within both the public and private sectors.

Reid-Brown led the agency through the merger of functions of the CIWMB with the Division of Recycling, creating the $1.3 billion, 700 employee CalRecycle.

"Margo provided both leadership and stability to staff and stakeholders through this very critical period of consolidation," said CAW Executive Director Mark Murray, "And during this period, recycling rates have also grown to record high levels. She has a lot to be proud of."
