Sep 22 - Consumers Don't Miss Plastic Bags After Ban

The new Palo Alto Plastic Bag ban went into effect on Friday and the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. According to an article in the San Jose Mercury News, consumers don't seem to be missing the plastic bag. The city banned plastic bags in an effort to reduce litter and the amount of garbage going to landfills. Lisa Krieger and Will Oremus write in the San Jose Mercury News that, so far, the transition has been smooth for vendor and consumer:

Although the city ban on plastic shopping bags went into effect Friday, all seven of the city's full-service groceries had already made the switch to offering only paper and reusable bags. On Friday afternoon, customers were using both, happily.
