Starting February 18, certain San Diego apartments, condominiums, and businesses along with special events in the city will be required to provide recycling in these locations and events. This is the start of a a tow year phase in of the recycling ordinance passed by the city last November. By 2010, all apartments, condos and commercial facilities will need to proive recycling programs, in addition to education about the programs. The recycling ordinance aimed to reduce the city's generated solid waste and help extend the life of the Miramar Landfill.
Owners and managers of these facilities will be required to offer recycling of at least plastic and glass bottles and jars, paper, newspaper, metal containers, and cardboard; theymust also provide education about the recycling program to tenants/employees.
