Plastic grocery bags are now illegal at large grocery stores and pharmacies in San Francisco. This first-in-the-nation ban has received international attention, though the plight of Oakland and Fairfax, who are being sued by plastic bag manufacturers for duplicating SF's ban, has largely gone unnoticed by the media.
