The LA County Board of Supervisors has passed a motion directing a county agency to consider the city's options in curtailing plastic bag waste, including an outright ban. Amid debate about whether LA has the composting infrastructure necessary to follow SF and promote biodegradable bags as the primary alternative, LA Supervisor and motion co-sponsor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke told Charles Proctor of the LA Times that regardless of the outcome, LA cannot ignore the bag problem:
"We can't just follow San Francisco. But we can't bury our heads in the sand and say everything's great either."
The County will way its bag options in three months.
