Feb 21 - Legislation Brings Opportunity to Recycle to All Californians

Assembly Member Lloyd Levine introduced legislation today that will provide multifamily dwelling residents with the opportunity to recycle. AB 548 would require owners of multifamily dwellings to provide appropriate recycling services in accordance with the local agency's recycling plan.

With this legislation, recycling in the state would expand to 7.1 million Californians living in more than 2.4 million multi-family dwelling units.

Currently, less that 40 percent of residents in multifamily dwellings have access to convenient recycling, with only around a 15 percent of the solid waste generated in multifamily dwellings being diverted from landfills.
