Jun 7 - Environmental Candidates Win Big in California Primary Races

Candidates supported by Environmentalists won big in yesterday's California Primary.

State Treasurer Phil Angelides, who earned the endorsement of virtually every environmental organization and environmental leader in the state, defeated State Controler Steve Westly for the Democratic nomination for Governor, despite being outspent during the campaign.

In the final weeks of the campaign, much of the focus was on the candidates environmental records.

And in every other Statewide race, the environmental endorsed candidates prevailed as well, including Former Governor Jerry Brown for Attorney General, and Debra Bowen for Secretary of State.

In the State Assembly, the environmental candidate has won or is prevailing in 17 of 20 contested races.

In the State Senate, results are more mixed, where the environmental candidate has won or is prevailing in 4 of the 7 contested races.
