Help Bring Recycling To All Californians

Most of California's communities have operating curbside recycling programs, but not all have these recycling programs available in apartments or multifamily dwellings. All the while, not all of the state's communities have reached the 50% diversion rate from landfills established by the Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989.

TAKE ACTION NOW to Support AB 822!

The Problem
Apartments or multifamily dwellings account for 8 percent (3.3 million tons) of the disposed waste stream in California, but only 15% of this waste is actually diverted from landfill, when 24% of housing units in the state have five or more units.

Recycling at apartments is unfortunately difficult to increase, due to a myriad of reasons, including a high occupancy turn over rate, cost of service, and lack of available space. This is all the more reason to not only increase availability of recycling in multi-family dwellings, but to make it easy for residents and managers.

Help CAW by helping us pass AB 822 (Levine), that would require multifamily dwelling owners to create appropriate recycling opportunities in their buildings. Please help by sending your support to let all Californians have easy access and the opportunity to recycle, thus helping reduce our waste in landfills!
