AB 7 (Evans) Bottle Bill Fix Awaits Action by Governor Schwarzenegger
AB 7 will immediately restore roughly $15 million per month in core recycling funding under California's successful Bottle Bill. Funding was cut last July forcing the closure of hundreds of centers and the loss of several hundred green jobs. If signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger, AB 7 will immediately restore funding and prevent millions in further cuts to recyclers, local governments, conservation corps and other core components of California's successful Bottle Bill.

Our Legislative Priorities:
AB 2138 (Chesbro) Marine Debris Pollution: AB 2318 will establish the Plastic Ocean Pollution Act, requiring the 'Fast Food' sector to reduce and recycle packaging waste and litter by prohibiting the distribution of packaging that is non-recyclable or non-compostable in the communities where it is distributed. This policy will make the fast food sector financially responsible to switch to packaging that is compatible with the recycling services available in the communities they serve and work with local governments and recyclers to increase processing and market capacity for recyclable and compostable packaging alternatives.
AB 1998 (Brownley) Plastic Bag Ban: Bans environmentally-damaging plastic bags at large retail stores.
AB 737 (Chesbro) Waste Diversion, Commercial Recycling - AB 737 is a CAW-sponsored bill that would build on the success of California's landmark recycling and waste reduction law, AB 939, by setting a statewide diversion goal of 75% and requiring businesses to recycle. This bill is a 2-year bill; it passed all policy committees and awaits passage in the Senate Appropriations Committee.
AB 2139 (Chesbro) Product Stewardship Framework - AB 2139 requires producers of covered products to participate in a product stewardship program, under a plan approved by CalRecycle. Covered products include: single use food packaging, medical sharps, pesticide containers (residential use), propane tank and butane lighters (personal use).
AB 1343 (Huffman) Paint Product Stewardship :
Requires paint manufacturers to develop and implement a program to collect, transport, and process postconsumer paint to reduce the costs and environmental impacts of the disposal of postconsumer paint in this state. This bill is a 2-year bill, introduced in 2009.
SB 920 (Yee) White Pages Waste Reduction: Prohibit landline phone providers from distributing "white pages" telephone listing directories to California residents. White Pages will still be provided for free, upon request of the resident.
