The New York City Council voted in favor of a bill that would require manufacturers to take responsibility for collecting and recycling electronics they produce. The bill, which passed 47-3, requires manufacturers to start collecting e-waste for recycling in 2009 and sets take back recycling and reuse goals of 25% (by weight) by 2012 of current sales, and to 65% by 2018.
