Jul 31 - Barrington, RI Drafting a Plastic Bag Ban

Submitted by Recycling News on July 31, 2012 - 09:41.

Yesterday night the Barrington Town Council voted to move forward with a plastic bag ban.

According to media, 14 local businesses signed a letter in support of the proposal.

Although a proposed paper bag charge was dropped, the ordinance banning plastic bags will soon be drafted.

The timeline of the ordinance includes an August workshop with an ordinance hearing in September and a council vote as early as October.

Thanks to Barrington's environmental leadership, the nearby town of Middletown is also considering a bag ban.
