Jun 13 - Belmont One Step Away from Foam Ban
Submitted by Recycling News on June 13, 2012 - 11:33.
Foam takeout containers may soon be history in Belmont.
Yesterday evening the Belmont City Council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance to restrict foamed polystyrene (also known as expanded polystyrene or eps) takeout containers.
Congrats to Belmont for its environmental leadership on banning EPS, a problem material that doesn't break down, is hard to clean up or recycle, and harms our environment, wildlife, and potentially our health.
And thank you to our members who took action and sent in letters of support! You can send a followup letter urging final adoption here.
What's next for the City to tackle? Hopefully the plastic bag.
