Mar 15- ArmorLite CFL Keeps Mercury Inside Protective Coating if Bulb Breaks

Compact fluorescent lights (CFL), while known for their energy efficiency and long-life, has trace amounts of mercury, a neurotoxin.

Treehugger recently featured ArmorLite, which has introduced CFLs where the whole bulb is covered by a flexible coating, and if the CFL breaks, it acts as a bag that keeps all the broken pieces inside.

AB 2716 would provide California residents with a free and convenient recycling system for mercury containing lamps. The cost of the program would be financed by manufacturers of fluorescent lighting.
