CAW-sponsored AB 341--a measure to increase California's waste reduction and recycling goal to 75%--passed the California State Assembly today, and it will now head to the Senate.
AB 341, by Assembly Member Wesley Chesbro, finally expands recycling to businesses and apartment buildings and requires the state to develop programs to recycle three quarters of the waste we generate. This bill will increase recycling significantly and set a new national benchmark for waste reduction efforts. Moreover, AB 341 will reduce over 5 millions tons of CO2 emissions and create thousands of green jobs.
This bill is substantively similar to last year's AB 737, which was vetoed by Governor Schwarzenegger, and is supported by a broad range of environmental organizations, as well as industry groups.
