According to its Environment division, the Irish bag fee law has been extremely successful at drastically reducing both bag consumption and plastic bag litter.  In a letter, Sean O'Suilleabhain from the Waste Division writes that bag consumption has dropped from over 300 per year per capita to around 30. Plastic bag litter dropped from 6% of overall litter to 1%.
