California and Pennsylvania have recently joined four other States that require the recycling of spent mercury thermostats, reports Environmental Protection. Scott Cassel executive director of The Product Stewardship Institute writes:

Mercury is one of the biggest health hazards found in everyday
household products, and the proper recycling of these products is
essential to protecting the environment.
