Feb 10 - New Data Shows Continued Failure of Plastic Bag Recycling

Despite a big push by plastic bag and chemical manufacturers, the recycling rate for plastic bags remains anemic, with less than 10% of bags returned for recycling in the US. According to the report by Moore Recycling Associates, just 400,000 tons of the more than 4 million tons of bags distributed in 2007 were recovered for recycling. The new data demonstrates that even though scattered opportunities now exist for plastic film collection, generation of plastics still far outpaces recovery.
