May 24 - Update on ARB Mandatory Reporting Workshop

Yesterday, the Air Resources Board held its second workshop on Mandatory Reporting. We were very disappointed to see that ARB had not added landfills to the list of initial reporting industries. We believe that this is a big mistake and that the state can not afford to postpone regulating landfills because the methane emitted from this sector is incredibly potent and delivers its entire climate-forcing impact within 12 years.

We met with ARB staff today to discuss this issue and remind them of the importance of requiring landfills to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We urge them to reconsider their decision and require mandatory reporting at landfills.
