Sep 28 - Governor Schwarzenegger Vetoes Recycling Bills (Again)

California's soon to be termed out Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has vetoed AB 737 by Assembly Member Chesbro, a landmark recycling bill that would have established recycling at all apartments and commercial facilities. Read the veto message. Despite broad support from the unlikely pairing of waste haulers, local governments, and environmental groups, Governor Schwarzenegger has once again sided with apartment owners and the state's Chamber of Commerce in opposing a policy that would have extended the opportunity to recycling to millions of Californians living in apartments and other multi-family dwellings.

Governor Schwarzenegger also vetoed SB 1454 by Senator DeSaulnier, legislation which would have prohibited plastic product makers from making false and misleading 'green marketing claims. Read the veto message.

We are still waiting to hear the status of AB 2398, the carpet recycling bill.
