Jul 15 - Anti-Recycling Legislation Stopped For the Year

AB 222 (by Assembly Members Adams and Ma), a bill that was strongly opposed by CAW and other environmental advocates because it would have created a significant barrier to diverting recyclable and compostable materials from the waste stream, has been stopped for the year. A secondary hearing of this bill was orginally scheduled for the Senate Environmental Quality Committee on Thursday, but that hearing has been cancelled. Barring any sort of extraordinary rule waivers, AB 222 will not be able to pass prior to this week's legislative deadline and will not be eligible for passage this year.
