Britain's three largest supermarket chains have pledged to reduce distribution of plastic bags by half, amounting to about 5 billion less plastic bags. The plan was announced by the UK Environment Minister and involves Tesco, Asda (a subsidiary of Wal-Mart) and J Sainsbury stores.
The agreement comes as over 120 UK towns and villages have recently banned plastic bags.
