Jan 31 - Santa Cruz County Bans Styrofoam

Santa Cruz County's Board of Supervisors have adopted a ban on foamed polystyrene ("Styrofoam"), bringing Santa Cruz closer to becoming the first county to be totally polystyrene-free. There are only two remaining municipalities in the County without polystyrene bans and both are expected to ban the problem material this year.

January was a productive month in marine debris pollution prevention, with the cities of Alameda, Santa Cruz, and Laguna Beach also passing polystyrene bans. LA County also passed a benchmark-or-ban program for plastic bags.
