Oct 11 - Organics Summit Follow-Up and CCAR Landfill Protocol

Yesterday, the CIWMB held its Organics Summit to discuss the barriers and solutions to diverting organics from landfills. The highlights of the event included a panel of composters, group discussions, and the many out-of-the-box ideas that were recommended. Notably, there were a few recurring themes throughout the day, especially the state’s ADC policy and areas for outreach, education, and research. It seemed clear that the board need to act quickly on these issues.

We encourage the Board to follow-up on the suggestions presented to them and to take bold action to tackle the large amounts of organics being disposed in California.
