Sept 19 - Ontario Adds Wine & Liquor Bottles to Deposit Law

The Canadian Province of Ontario has announced plans to expand their bottle and can recycling law to include wine and liquor bottles.

The move is expected to increase the recycling of 25,000 to 30,000 tons of glass annually.

"Ontarians have shown a tremendous dedication to the Blue Box program," said Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty. "This new container return program is an important step forward in our commitment to work with Ontarians and our partners in government and industry to build clean, healthy, vibrant communities across the province."

Despite multiple efforts over the years, efforts to expand California's Bottle and Can Recycling Law to include wine and liquor bottles have defeated due to opposition from wine and distilled spirit producers.
