Mar 3 - Treasurer Angelides and Senator Florez Target Dairy Pollution

California State Treasurer Phil Angelides, State Senator Dean Florez (D-Shafter), were joined by Californians Against Waste and local officials today to unveil new legislation to protect the Central Valley’s air and water from dairy pollution by placing strict environmental requirements on state loans for dairy pollution control projects.
Authored by Florez and sponsored by Angelides, SB 931 prohibits the California Pollution Control Financing Authority (CPCFA) from financing new dairy pollution control projects until regional regulators put in place new technology standards to reduce pollution in 2007-08.  Once these standards are in place, the bill requires loan applicants to demonstrate that any new projects financed by the Authority result in pollution reduction that exceeds current air and water quality regulations.
