Mar 3 - Washington State: E-waste Recycling Bill Advances

Washington's State House yesterday voted 69-29 to pass legislation establishing a program for the recycling of computers, monitors and televisions.

SB 6428 is supported by a coalition that includes electronics retailers, recyclers, Hewlett Packard, and the environmental group Washington Citizens for Resource Conservation.

If the measure passes the State Senate (as expected) and is signed by the Governor, Washington would join California and Maine as the first state's to adopt Extended Producer Responsibility policies for the recycling of toxic electronics.
