Mar 2 - Landfill Gas Capture Subject of International Symposium

The ARB is hosting an International Symposium next week in Sacramento on Near-Term Solutions for Climate Change Mitigation in California. Landfills will be the subject of two sessions on Tuesday morning. Both appear to be focused on increasing landfill gas capture and methane to energy strategies:

There are no sessions on technologies to reduce landfill emissions by diverting organic material from landfills, or technologies to increase the efficiency of recycling. If we are going to achieve the kind of real reductions necessary to help avert climate change, the focus on the waste sector will need to be expanded to include recycling based technologies as well as landfill gas capture.
