Jan 6 - Chesbro Appointed To Waste Board

On Friday, State Sen. President Pro Tem Don Perata appointed recently termed-out State Senator Wes Chesbro from Arcata to the CA Integrated Waste Management Board.

Chesbro has an extensive background in recycling policy and solid waste management issues, having founded the Arcata Community Recycling Center in the 1970's. Chesbro was elected and served on the Arcata City Council and Humboldt County Board of Supervisors in the 1980's. In 1990, Chesbro was appointed by then State Senate President David Roberti to serve on the newly formed California Integrated Waste Management Board.

For the last 8 years, Senator Chesbro has represented the North Coast of California in the State Senate. During his legislative tenure he authored numerous waste reduction and recycling measures, though he is probably best recognized for his work as the Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee. CAW and other environmental groups strongly supported Chesbro's appointment to the CIWMB.

Chesbro replaces board member Cheryl Peace of San Diego. Ms. Peace emerged as one of the boards leading enviromental and reform advocates over the last several years.

There remains one vacancy on the CIWMB to be filled by the Speaker of the State Assembly.
