Nov 17 - Environmental Groups Back Former Legislators to Board

Come January 1, 2007, there will be two openings on the CA Integrated Waste Management Board. The Board plays an important role in protecting the environment through enforcement of the state's waste management and recycling laws. This is why the appointed board members should have experience with waste management and recycling policy.

The two openings will be appointed to the CIWMB Board by the Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez and State Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata and environmental groups agree that the best candidates would be outgoing State Senator Wes Chesbro and Assembly Member Fran Pavley. Both have extensive environmental backgrounds. Senator Chesbro is an experienced legislator on the issues of waste management and recycling, which stem back from being a previous CIWMB board member. Asm. Pavley co-authored this year's landmark Greenhouse Gas emission reduction legislation, as well as two successful e-waste recycling measures.

CAW, CA Communities Against Toxics, CA League of Conservation Voters, Environmental Defense, Natural Resources Defense Coucnil, Planning and Conservation League and Sierra Club California all support these two choices for appointments to the CIWMB Board.
